About Kolibri Geo Services

Built for the Arctic. Grounded in experience.

Kolibri Geo Services provides practical, hands-on support for scientific research across the polar regions. From Greenland to Antarctica, we assist with field logistics, custom instrument design, permafrost drilling, drone operations, and strategic project planning—always with a focus on what works in remote, demanding environments.

Based in Svalbard since 2008, we combine technical expertise with deep field experience to help researchers turn plans into results. Our in-house workshop, mobile transport options, and flexible field capabilities make us a trusted partner for institutions and media teams working at the edges of what’s possible—where reliability matters most.

Ullrich Neumann

Founder, field operator, geoscientist, builder.

Kolibri Geo Services was founded by Ullrich Neumann, a geoscientist and craftsman with a lifelong fascination for remote places, technical problem-solving, and practical design. Born in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz), Germany, Ullrich took his first aerial photo with a remote-controlled glider in 1993 and has worked in the High Arctic since 2003.

He holds a Master’s degree in Glaciology from the University of Oslo and is also a trained wooden boatbuilder. This mix of scientific training and hands-on skill shapes every part of Kolibri’s work—where theory meets tools, and field plans become reality. Ullrich brings a rare combination of technical knowledge, creative thinking, and field-tested resilience to every project he takes on.
