Permafrost Drilling
Custom rigs, field-ready systems, and support for Arctic ground investigations
Drilling in permafrost requires the right tools, the right approach, and a deep understanding of frozen ground conditions. Kolibri Geo Services offers specialised drilling services for science and infrastructure across the polar regions, with custom-built rigs and years of experience in the field.

Geophysical Boreholes
We drill boreholes to support geophysical investigations, including the installation of sensors and long-term monitoring equipment. Our team can advise on placement, depth, and integration with other field instruments, ensuring your data collection is both reliable and sustainable in Arctic conditions.
-
Core Sampling
Core samples offer vital insights into permafrost composition, structure, and stability. We provide coring services using rotary and custom-built rigs designed to operate in cold, remote locations. Samples are carefully recovered and handled according to your scientific needs, whether for lab analysis, stratigraphy, or permafrost modelling.

Infrastructure Foundations
Permafrost drilling is also critical for planning and constructing infrastructure in polar areas. We support site investigations and ground preparation by drilling to assess soil stability and subsurface conditions. Our rigs and procedures are adapted to remote or undeveloped sites, making us a flexible partner for Arctic infrastructure projects.

Custom Rigs & Field Deployment
Kolibri has developed several drilling systems tailored for the Arctic, including a purpose-built rig co-developed with UNIS. We operate both rotary rigs and modular equipment designed in-house, and we’re capable of transporting, setting up, and operating in the field with minimal footprint. We work independently or alongside partners such as Geofield to deliver complete drilling solutions in the most challenging environments.
