Drone Support for NRK’s Monsen & Nasjonalparkene

Client: NRK
Contact: Håvard Jenssen

When NRK needed a substitute drone pilot for their production of Monsen & Nasjonalparkene, Kolibri Geo Services was brought in to support the crew during a multi-day filming expedition across the northern parts of Svalbard. The episode followed renowned dog musher Lars Monsen and his team travelling by sled through remote Arctic landscapes—requiring aerial footage captured in harsh and unpredictable conditions.

Kolibri supplied drone platforms adapted for cold-weather flying and extended use far from power infrastructure. With redundant equipment, field charging systems, and rapid deployment capability, we ensured the production could continue without delay—even during long days of sled travel and exposure.

Beyond flying, Kolibri served as a guide and snowmobile operator, helping two camera operators navigate across glaciers, over sea ice, and through demanding terrain. With extensive local knowledge and field safety experience, we supported both the logistics and safety of the production. We also assisted in setting up camp and ensuring the team remained self-sufficient while working far from Longyearbyen.

This project shows how Kolibri’s drone expertise and Arctic operational skills extend beyond scientific work—offering media teams a dependable, self-sufficient partner for remote field production in polar environments.

“Ullrich Neumann, Kolibri gave us the flexibility, field experience, and flying capacity we needed to keep filming—reliably, and without compromise.”
